Brian Droitcour Franz West sculpture

I had the pleasure to visits Franz West tree sculpture in New York City, NY, USA.

Franz West is an amazing artist with an extraordinary focus on connections between nature and technology. He instinctively tells us that technology is nature and nature is technology, but he also shows us that this is something we can not understand, at least not easily. He tries to help us understand. I thank him for this.

Jackson Pollock

American World World Two painter, Jackson Pollock, has left a significant legacy of sprayed oil on canvas. This genius painter expressed his discomfort with horrors of war by painting without contact with the canvas.

“I’m not aware of what I’m doing” says Pollock of influence alcoholism had on his art.

An avid drinker interested in rural and indigenous art he developed the style of painting on the floor usually drunk.

His favorite was aged whiskey with some brandy on the side.

Due to damage alcohol caused to his working brain Pollock was forced to abandon conceptual naming of his pieces and focused on numbering them.

In spite of no support in Springs, New York, Pollock remained here until his car crash.

New York town of Springs never managed to recover after Pollock’s death – its cultural activity has been ranging around zero since then – also the alcohol consumption has dropped significantly.
