Thomas Ruff is a German conceptual art photographer specialized in Adobe Photoshop alterations. His extensive use of Adobe Photoshop has marked his career and ambivalent critique of post World War One Western European society.

In his latest project Thomas Ruff focuses on the photos of nude women and men who are just about to have an intercourse. However his hands shake and photos are blurry. This creates extreme frustration in the viewer as they are not able to fully experience the sexual play presented in the photos. Most likely viewers of Thomas Ruff Nudes series will immediately have sex or masturbate to proper porn to satisfy the sexual craving stimulated by the Nudes.

During my visit to Thomas Ruff show I have noticed a news stand selling porn not far form the gallery (maybe few kilometers). I could not think if Ruff organized it to be there as part of his art piece.

This manipulation of viewers is typical of Ruff’s work.

Miltos Manetas, Thomas Ruff and Jeff Koons all use Adobe and Microsoft products in production of their art. Classification of art by the software the artists use has always been problematic but I will take the risk and classify these three in the Adobe & Microsoft series. All three artists also sleep, eat and shop in supermarkets.

Thomas is based in Düsseldorf due to lack of support from Shanghai which he visited maybe few times.
